STD is a sexually transmitted disease that anyone can catch if they come into contact with the infected partner through unprotected sexual activities. STDs can be asymptomatic and cause serious changes in the reproductive organs. It is obvious that, in the absence of symptoms, people tend to ignore STD testing and treatment. Some people think that STDs go alone, but the fact is that STDs can induce life-threatening events without any serious illness among them.

Consequences of having STDs for too long?

Due to long-term complications created by STDs, it has become important to have regular checkups if you are sexually active. If you have an STD for a long time, you can combat significant health problems that can be very difficult to manage. Some STDs can induce irreversible changes in the reproductive organs if you contract STDs for a long time.

The possible complications you may develop due to untreated STD are-

Infertility:  Normally curable STD diseases can result in  pelvic inflammatory disease  in women and  infertility  in men and women if you have STI for a long time.

HIV:  Due to prolonged STI infection, you may become susceptible to  HIV  . Untreated STD can lead to the easy entry of  HIV infection  into your body and hamper your immunity.

Partner Infection:  When you have contracted STD for a long time and you have not noticed and treated, your partner can also catch you through unprotected sexual indulgences.

Severe Systemic Disease:  If you have not discovered STD and have not treated it, it can cause serious health deterioration without having any serious illness among them. Many organ systems in your body can become infected.

Pregnancy Complications:  STDs have the potential to cause serious complications in pregnancy and childbirth, endangering the health of the newborn. STDs can cause stillbirths, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriages and newborns can catch fatal infections during childbirth through the birth canal.

Sexually transmitted diseases and their complications if left untreated

Chlamydia –  If someone has contracted  chlamydia  for a long period of time, men may develop urethritis, HIV and infertility. Women may develop PID, infertility, miscarriage and premature birth. The newborn born through the infected birth canal can get eye, ear, lung and pneumonia infections.
